In a special initiative for cricket fans, Metropolitan Transport Corporation has announced free bus travel for passengers holding valid IPL match tickets in Chennai. This move aims to ease traffic congestion and provide convenient transport for spectators heading to the stadium.

Fans attending matches at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium can travel free of cost in non-AC city buses by showing their match ticket to the conductor. The offer is valid three hours before the match and up to three hours after the match, allowing flexible travel.

Passengers are allowed to use multiple buses to reach the stadium and return to their destination without any fare. However, this facility is not applicable to air-conditioned buses.

Special Bus Services for IPL Crowd

To manage the heavy rush after matches, additional buses will be operated from key locations close to the stadium, including:

- Anna Square Bus Stand
- Island Grounds temporary bus stop
- Chennai University bus stop
- Omandurar Government Hospital (Anna Salai)

All these pickup points are located within 500 meters of the stadium, making it easier for spectators to access transport quickly. Shuttle services will also operate between Anna Statue on Anna Salai and the stadium to improve last-mile connectivity.

Free Metro Travel for IPL Fans

Chennai Metro Rail Limited has also introduced a free metro travel facility for IPL spectators using sponsored tickets.

Passengers can scan the QR code on their ticket at automatic entry gates and travel free of cost. The offer is valid for one round trip (two entries and two exits) between any metro station and Government Estate Metro Station, which is the nearest station to the stadium.
