Tamil Nadu Launches Singappen Special Force; ₹354.66 Crore Allocated for Women's Safety

The Tamil Nadu government has issued a Government Order (GO) outlining the operational structure and funding for the newly formed Singappen Special Force (SSF), an all-women police force aimed at enhancing women`s safety across the state.

A total of 2,545 posts have been created, including 540 Sub-Inspectors and 1,620 personnel in field units covering all police subdivisions and ranges. In the first phase, around 70 patrol teams, each comprising four women personnel, will be deployed, with the force expanding gradually.

The government has approved ₹354.66 crore for the project, including ₹310.98 crore towards salaries. The force will be equipped with surveillance drones, body-worn cameras, upgraded mobile applications, SUVs, two-wheelers, tablets, walkie-talkies, and wireless communication systems. A dedicated control room with advanced monitoring facilities has also been sanctioned to support real-time coordination and response.
