The Southern Railway Chennai Division has expanded passenger amenities by introducing 20 new parking facilities across multiple railway stations during the 2025-26 financial year. With this addition, the total number of authorised parking locations under the division has increased from 106 to 126.

The newly added parking facilities are available at important railway stations including Vandalur, Potheri, Avadi South and North, Tambaram East, Chengalpattu, Perambur Carriage Works, Singaperumalkoil, Kadambattur, Tambaram Sanatorium, Nemilicherry, Ennore, Sullurupeta, Arakkonam, Guindy, St. Thomas Mount, and Jolarpettai.

As part of the expansion, a multilevel parking facility covering around 820.32 square metres has been commissioned at Chengalpattu railway junction to handle the growing passenger traffic at the station.

Railway officials stated that the new parking infrastructure is aimed at reducing congestion around station premises and offering organised parking spaces for commuters.

Some stations, including Chengalpattu and Perambur, are also being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which focuses on improving passenger facilities and station infrastructure across the country.

The parking facilities are equipped with modern amenities such as digital ticketing systems, UPI payment options, and CCTV surveillance for better convenience and security.

The Chennai Division said the initiative is part of its broader infrastructure modernisation plan to improve station accessibility and passenger movement across the suburban and long-distance railway network.
