Vote counting for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026 is underway across the state after polling was held in a single phase on April 23. Counting began at 8 AM with tight security arrangements at centres in all districts.

According to early trends, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is leading in more than 52 constituencies, while actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam is ahead in over 73 seats. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is currently leading in more than 46 constituencies.

The election was conducted across all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, with a total of 4,023 candidates in the fray. Among them, 3,579 were men, 443 were women, and one was a transgender candidate.

A total of 5.73 crore voters were eligible to vote, and 4.87 crore people cast their votes, resulting in a voter turnout of 85.10%, one of the highest in recent years.

The DMK-led alliance included parties such as Congress, DMDK, VCK, MDMK, CPI, CPM, MNM, IUML, and others. The AIADMK-led alliance featured BJP, PMK, AMMK, TMC, IJK, and allied parties. Meanwhile, Vijay’s TVK and Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi contested the election independently.

After polling, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from 75,064 polling stations were sealed and transported to counting centres. They were stored under three-layer police security in strong rooms until counting day.

As counting progresses, these trends are expected to change, and the final results will determine the next government in Tamil Nadu.
