The new GCC commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh took part in a meeting with the monitoring officials belonging to the 15 zones of GCC. Mr. Harmender Singh, secretary, Municipal Administration and Water Supply was also present in this meeting.

A revised strategy would be followed in Chennai and under this basic screening would be done for all those under the age of 60 in their homes itself. For those above the age of 60, GCC would strengthen the facilities for screening of the patients. Apart from door-to-door screening, GCC would also increase ambulance services plus hire doctors for telemedicine services, provide oxygen support and regulate private labs etc.

For telemedicine services in all the zones, the TN government has asked GCC to hire doctors. Walk in interview procedure would be used to select the doctors. For those Covid-19 patients on home quarantine, telemedicine services would be provided by the doctors for twice a day.

Mr. Gangandep Bedi hinted that control rooms would be set up in all the 15 GCC zones soon and the doctors would sit in the rooms. For those residents who visit testing centres of GCC and private labs, 30000 basic medical kits would be supplied to them. At 3 locations in 3 regions, oxygen parlours would be set up by the civic body. It is said that atleast 300 persons could use these facilities.

Now, oxygen supported beds are available at CTC in Nandambakkam and many Covid-19 patients are being shifted there. Now, 800l of oxygen is made available there for the patients. The officials of GCC later pointed out that there would be more oxygen supported beds to be available at this CTC in Nandambakkam. Oxygen supply would be available at all the Covid-19 care centres in Chennai.

For providing transport to the Covid-19 patients, taxi operators have been roped to convert cars into ambulances. Truth is that GCC has held talks with the popular taxi aggregator Uber. To provide support for the Coronavirus infected patients, private lab tests for Covid-19 at 59 locations would be regulated. To provide support to the Chennai residents, the labs have been asked to communicate the results to the corporation.
