COVID care centres in Chennai filling up very fast with patients - May month to see huge rise in the cases

The total or full capacity of the Covid care centres in Chennai is 11645 now and till Monday, 26th April 2021 as many as 2948 beds have been filled up with patients.

It must be remembered that on 18th April just 1104 of the total beds were occupied and on 22nd April the numbers reached 1900. Point is that the Chennai residents who are Covid positive with mild or moderate symptoms or those who lack facilities like separate toilets for home based quarantine. This was admitted by the Covid care centres or CCC.

It is worthy to note that GCC has been testing nearly 20,000 persons per day and there are now 31500 active cases in the city. In Chennai, TPR is at 20percent. On Sunday, there were as many as 4206 new Covid-19 positive cases and it is now said that by middle of May the numbers would shoot up. 

Till now, 3.06lakhs of Chennai population has been tested positive for the infection and this is out of the total of 80lakh population. As many as 4567 persons have died due to this deadly infection.

For controlling the rise in the number of cases, vaccination and contact tracing have been carried out now. This was as per some officials of GCC. Important information is that GCC has opened as many as 15 temporary Covid-19 vaccination centres in Chennai that is one for each zone. 

It must be taken to account that both Covishield as well as covaxin would be available in these centres. It has been revealed that the Covaxin would be available only for those who are due for second doses and this has been due to the shortage. At some select sites, GCC is also organising Covaxin sessions to administer a second dose for addressing the shortage and rush etc.
