In Chennai city, the stocks of Covid-19 vaccine have been depleting now!!

In this scenario, the GCC has urged the health department to allocate half the number of vials it receives from the Centre. Mr. G. Prakash, Chennai corporation commissioner spoke about how due to the high population in the city a request has been made to the health department regarding allocating half the vaccines to Chennai. It was promised by the DPH that more vials would be sent to the civic body.

Around 10,000 doses of Covaxin and around 75000 doses of Covishield vaccines were available with GCC yesterday. Chennai is receiving more vials than other districts. He threw light on the Covaxin that was not being administered as the first dose because of the shortage. Through the vaccination drive, more than 50percent of the persons above the age of 45 have been covered. The citizens of Chennai have been requested by the GCC not to visit big hospitals unless they were emergencies.

Truth is that those with dire need for beds to treat Covid-19 would be given preference first than others. So, when persons with mild symptoms visit big hospitals then those in dire needs would not be able to get beds. Persons with mild symptoms must visit the screening centres.

The health of the patients would be assessed by the doctors at the screening centres and they would recommend home based quarantine or admission to Covid Care Centre. It is said that these persons could visit the Covid centres by their own vehicles or by the vehicles of GCC. For every case identified in Chennai, GCC has been tracing as many as 8 contacts now. Information is that an amount of Rs 4.12 crores has been collected from those who have violated Covid-19 norms like wearing facemasks etc.
