911 persons affected with coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: 9 deaths so far!

Today (Friday, 10th April), it was confirmed that another 77 persons have been affected by a coronavirus in the state of Tamil Nadu. With this, the total number of persons affected has shot up to 911! One old woman from Thoothukudi died today. So, the loss of lives so far has gone up to 9!

The Chief Secretary of the state government of Tamil Nadu, K. Shanmugam, IAS, had a session with the press and shared:

“We have imposed lockdown conditions with the main objective controlling and spreading of the raging coronavirus pandemic!  But, today, 77 more persons have been confirmed with the infection of coronavirus today (10th April). As these persons were isolated, the spreading of infection is in control.  We have isolated the other family members of the affected persons and testing them.

The Chief Minister EPS has insisted that the family members of the affected persons need to be tested again. So, this is being taken up. The Chief  Minister has been referring to the issue of the extension of lockdown with the experts in various sectors. The Chief Minister had a review/consultation meeting today with the Medical Expert Council recently formed. At this meeting, the medical expert council has recommended the extension of the lockdown until the period when the spreading is controlled.

The Chief Minister has planned to have a meeting with all the cabinet ministers tomorrow (Saturday, 11th April) on this issue and then will make an announcement later.

Rapid Testing Equipment/Kits were expected to arrive yesterday (9th April). However, the central government has informed that it will receive the equipment/kits and send it to the states.  So, it is expected in a day. The production company has promised to the state of Tamil Nadu to give the rapid test equipment/kits. So, there will not be any disruption in the medical services being rendered.

In case a person gets infected, the state government will bear the entire medical expenses. In the last 24 hours, an old woman from Thoothukudi died of coronavirus. So far, 44 persons have recovered.

The funds taken from the MLA Constituency Development Fund will be utilized for the procurement of coronavirus testing equipment/kits. Coronavirus is still in the 2nd Phase in Tamil Nadu. All the doctors have been strictly advised to wear facial masks while testing patients.”
