Diwali Special Trains 2025: Full Schedule for Chennai, Tambaram & Chengalpattu Routes Announced

In anticipation of the festive rush ahead of Diwali 2025, the Southern Railway has announced a series of special train services to accommodate the surge in passenger traffic. These trains will operate on select dates, connecting Chennai, Tambaram, and Chengalpattu to key destinations such as Podanur (Coimbatore), Kanyakumari, and Tirunelveli - ensuring hassle-free travel for thousands heading home to celebrate the festival of lights.

Key Routes and Schedules

1. Chennai Central – Podanur (Coimbatore) Special

  • Train No. 06049 (Chennai–Podanur)
    • Departure: 11:55 PM on October 17 & 18
    • Arrival: 9:30 AM the next day
  • Train No. 06050 (Podanur–Chennai)
    • Departure: 2:00 PM on October 18
    • Arrival: 11:10 PM the same day

Major Stops: Perambur, Tiruvallur, Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur.

2. Tambaram – Kanyakumari Special

  • Train No. 06133 (Tambaram–Kanyakumari)
    • Departure: 11:30 PM on October 16 & 18
    • Arrival: 6:25 AM the following day
  • Train No. 06134 (Kanyakumari–Chengalpattu)
    • Departure: 3:05 PM on October 17
    • Arrival: 4:30 AM the next day

This service offers direct overnight connectivity between Chennai’s Tambaram and the southern tip of Tamil Nadu, benefiting pilgrims, tourists, and festive travellers alike.

3. Chengalpattu – Tirunelveli Special

  • Train No. 06156 (Chengalpattu–Tirunelveli)

    • Departure: 3:15 PM on October 21 & 22

    • Journey Type: Overnight service

Key Stops: Melmaruvathur, Villupuram, Vriddhachalam, Ariyalur, Trichy, Manapparai, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sattur, Kovilpatti, and Tirunelveli.
