Chennai EVMs Secured in Strong Rooms with 4-Layer Security and 540 CCTV Cameras

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in 16 Assembly constituencies in Chennai have been safely transported to designated counting centers and placed in strong rooms under heavy security.

The machines were sealed in the presence of political party representatives after being moved with tight police and paramilitary protection following the completion of polling across Tamil Nadu.

EVMs Stored at Key Counting Centers

In Chennai, the EVMs have been distributed across three major counting centers:

Loyola College – Covers 6 constituencies including Kolathur, Villivakkam, and Anna Nagar

Queen Mary`s College – Covers 5 constituencies including RK Nagar and Royapuram

Anna University – Covers 5 constituencies including T. Nagar and Velachery

All machines have been secured in strong rooms and sealed under strict supervision.

4-Layer Security Deployed Across Centers

A comprehensive four-layer security system has been implemented at all three counting centers:

- Central Armed Police Forces (paramilitary)
- Tamil Nadu Special Police
- Armed Reserve Police (Chennai)
- Local Law & Order, Crime, and Traffic Police

Security personnel will be deployed round the clock in shifts until counting day.

540 CCTV Cameras Installed for Surveillance

A total of 540 CCTV cameras have been installed to ensure constant monitoring:

Queen Mary’s College – 172 cameras
Loyola College – 188 cameras
Anna University – 180 cameras

Live footage from inside and outside the strong rooms is being monitored and displayed for political party agents for full transparency.

Additional Safety and Monitoring Measures

- Access to counting centers is restricted to authorized agents with Election Commission ID cards

- Fire safety arrangements include 5 fire engines at each center

- Emergency medical support includes 108 ambulances with medical teams stationed at all locations

- Senior police officials, including Commissioner Abin Dinesh Modak, have personally inspected security arrangements
