It is imperative and urgent to consult a doctor and get immediate treatment if a person is affected with stones in the kidney. Otherwise, if left unattended, it may cause far more serious problems later!

Similarly, stones in the gallbladder must also be removed immediately through surgery.

Gallbladder is shaped like a small bag and located just below the liver as an attachment to the gland which carries the bile generated in the liver to the gut. Gallbladder stores the bile created by the liver for the purpose of digestion twice in between the meals.

A maximum of 700 millilitres of bile is generated in a day. However, the gallbladder capacity is only 60 millilitres.

Once food is eaten, the gallbladder tends to shrink and releases the bile to the liver to help digestion process.

How stones are formed in the gallbladder?

Stones are formed in the gallbladder mainly due to eating food items with high fat content and also frequently taking contraceptive tablets.

Specialists inform that women, obese persons, pregnant women, people above 40 years of age, and people with gastric problems are generally more likely to be affected stones in the gallbladder.

There are some symptoms which indicate the presence of stones in the gallbladder – pain in the upper right part of the stomach after meals, jaundice, and acute stomach pains. If these symptoms are experienced, it is better to take ultra-sound test immediately for checking/confirmation. Only a few persons may require CT-Scan or MRI Scan.

Treatment

A latest form of surgery, known as Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatographyhas been introduced now. This surgery is successful in majority of cases. However, a few people require surgery through laparoscopy.

Medical experts recommend removal of gallbladder entirely in the event when excessive stones are formed in it or when it loses the capacity to expand & shrink. There are no harms or side effects after the removal of gallbladder.

A point to note is the stones may be formed even by gallbladder which is out of order. This failed gallbladder may affect the other organs in the body.

A similar instance which can be cited is when we remove the affected appendix through appendicitis which is harmless. Similarly, removal of gallbladder is also harmless.
