It is rather difficult to maintain your desired image of a caring & loving mother of your children. It is even more difficult in case of mothers who have delivered to care after their infant!!

If you happen to be a young mother, it is possible that you may not be all that aware about the intricacies of motherhood and care for the child. One of the most important aspects of child care is to know about food items which are harmful to the child’s health and those items that benefit the health of the child.

Some food items can cause breathing blockages or rashes on the skin. It is always better to avoid solid food and give only liquid dite to the child up to a period of 4 months. However, most of the parents feel tempted to feed the child with items that they eat! This is certainly not safe.

Listed below are some of the food items which may be harmful to cause unidentifiable diseases and other health problems.

Cow’s Milk - Please avoid giving cow’s milk to children under the age of 1 year. Mother’s milk is the most ideal food for infants.

Here are some reasons why cow’s milk is better avoided: Cow’s milk contains very less iron content. Also, some important nutrients and minerals such as Vitamin C, E, and zinc are not available in cow’s milk. Also, it is rather difficult for the infant to absorb these minerals & nutrients. Cow’s milk may cause digestion problems as well.  At the same time, please note that cow’s milk is 100% OK for the older children and persons. It is not recommended only for the infant stage even causing some kidney problems at times.

Nuts - Please avoid giving all kinds of nuts until the age of 4! There is a danger of breathing system getting blocked while youngsters eat nuts. Even the oil extracted from some of these nuts are relatively denser and are again harmful for the child’s health.

You might have noticed that a lot of people suffer from different types of allergies. You child is also not an exception to this trend. You should be careful to refrain from giving any allergy to your child. You may better consult your doctor before giving nuts to your child.

Fish items - Fish is one of the itemems that a parent will hesitate to give to their children. Why? Fish contain mercury. This blocks growth. Especially, avoid fish like king mackerel and finned shark which contain high levels of mercury. Everyone is aware about allergies. So, you must wait till the child reaches the age of 2 to 3 years before you try giving fish. This caution will prevent the children from any allergies. Again, please be aware that fish is among the most harmful food items for the young children.

Eggs - It may surprise you to note that eggs are indeed harmful to young children. Therefore, avoid giving eggs. Once they grow up to a certain age, they will not develop any allergy by eating egg. Age of 5 years is the best to give eggs without any fear. However, please note that eggs can cause allergies such as quickening heartbeat, reddening of face, and breathing difficulties. Anyhow, have a medical consultation.

Raw foods - the news that all raw vegetable and fruits are rich in nutrients and minerals is well known. However, this is valid only for grown-up elders. However, giving raw vegetables and fruits to young children is dangerous. First, it is difficult to chew and swallow. Second, there is a good possibility of a piece getting stuck in the child’s throat. Please ensure that you give only give small cut pieces.

">Honey - It is a fact that honey is a healthy food containing a lot of benefits. It is also good for sore throats. However, it will surprise you to learn that it is better to avoid giving honey to young children. You can start giving honey only after the child becomes 1 year-old. Honey for the young ones is bad as it can cause a disease known as ‘botulism’. This is due to some unique bacteria present only in honey! If you are keen  on giving honey, please use it as an additive in other food items as it becomes less harmful when it is added to food items which are hot (temperature).

Final tips - please consult with your doctor before giving any solid food to your young child. The doctor can give some more useful information. You must become aware of the food items that are beneficial and the food items that are harmful. If you have any useful information, please feel free to share!
