Regional Meteorological Centre predicts rain in Tamil Nadu

Posted on: 23/Nov/2013 12:17:08 PM
Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has mentioned that weather conditions in this season have been such that rains from the North East Monsoon are largely alluding Tamil Nadu and moving towards the north to AP and Odisha.

November is generally the rainiest month, not only for Chennai but for the entire coastal TN. This time around the Bay of Bengal has been very active in terms of the potential for rain. But since the air movement is towards the north, the North East Monsoon rains are unable to settle in TN.

Meanwhile, the State continues to face a deficit of 30 per cent in the rainfall for the season. Chennai has a deficit of 38 per cent.

Isolated rains were reported from various parts of the State, including Chennai, on Friday. The forecast for Chennai and neighborhood said the sky condition would be partly cloudy and rain may occur in some areas. Maximum and minimum temperature would be around 34 and 25 degrees Celsius respectively. Rains have also been predicted for Dindigul, Kancheepuram, Kanyakumari, Namakkal, Puducherry, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Sivaganaga, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Virudhunagar.
