The Higher Education Dept or HED has been exploring tie ups in this aspect with many foreign universities. It is known that already the students from leading private institutions have been spending a semester abroad.

It was brought out by a senior official from HED that a semester abroad programme would be offered for the final year students.

What is this semester abroad programme about?

As many as 50 students would be chosen especially from the rural areas depending on specific criteria including their academic performances. Afterwards, based on the requirement the programme would be extended for many students also. The TN government would bear the entire cost like travel, accommodation etc. This superb programme will be launched soon.`

Unique opportunity for the students:

This semester abroad programme would be a unique opportunity for the students to get international learning and living experience etc. It is mentioned that the students would get a chance to work with eminent faculty members of those universities.

Different from typical exchange programmes:

It was explained by an official belonging to HED that this semester abroad programme would be different from the usual exchange programmes offered by private institutions. Here, the courses that are trending currently would be chosen depending on the feedback and suggestions from the experts and high level authorities of HED. He added that only those universities wit high World QS Ranking Score would be chosen.

Advantage of this unique programme:

By this programme, the students would get an opportunity to study/work in a cross-cultural multi-national environment. This would boost the self confidence and they would feel independent also. The students would be able to gain best research practices and experience by interacting with the research scholars etc.

It is worth mentioning that after successful completion of the period of study in abroad the students could return to their parent colleges and continue their course.

Quality conversion process:

Finally, a quality conversion procedure would be used to convert the credits earned (while studying in the foreign institution) to the degree programme.
