The quality of criminal investigations and public delivery would reach amazing heights soon!! Thanks to this superb move from the TN government!!
It is learnt that across TN 280 police stations managed by sub inspector or SI would be upgraded and these police stations would be managed by Inspector of police.
Following a detailed proposal from the DGP or head of police force, the decision was announced by the chief minister of TN and ordered formally by the state government.
It is worth mentioning here that at present 424 of Tamil Nadu`s 1366 taluk police stations have been managed by SI and fall under circle inspector. Only the inspector of police has got the right to inspect serious crimes like murders, accident deaths, robbery, dacoity etc.
The population has been increasing across TN and this has resulted in more crimes etc. Point is that the work pressure of the circle inspectors (who are in-charge of an average of 23 police stations) has increased. The thoroughness and effectiveness of the crime investigations has gone down because of the heavy work load and justice has been hindered.
To provide a suitable solution to the above said issues plus to fulfil the chief minister`s announcement the TN govt has given approval to upgrade 280 police stations (out of 424 SI managed police stations) in TN. It is now said that these 280 police stations would be managed by the inspector of police (Law and Order
