A surprising piece of information for the teachers in Tamil Nadu!!
A new online tool recommended by NCERT or national council of educational research and training would be used to seek the performances of more than 3lakhs teachers in the government schools in TamilNadu. It is noteworthy that performance indicators are specific activities that are required to be performed by a teacher inside and outside the class to be observed and assessed.
By this, the strength as well as the weakness of the teachers would be identified and this was according to a senior officer from the school education department. He added that this would motivate the teachers to do well and by this the objectives like school improvement and teachers accountability would be achieved. It must be noted that each performance indicator is rated on a 4 point scale ranging from 1 to 4 showing the levels of performances.
Below satisfactory performance, satisfactory performance, effective performance and exceptional performance would be there on the four point scale. For their rating against each such indicator, the teacher must provide reason or evidence. Information is that if specific pieces of evidence were unavailable, then the teacher must mention the reason regarding why it was placed at that particular level. The headmasters have been issued guidelines. It was pointed out by an officer that the self-assessment data submitted by the teachers must be tabulated and analysed to identify areas and themes and this would be useful for future in-service programmes for the teachers.
