Parents are important stakeholders in the development of the schools!!

At the parent - teachers meeting organised at various government schools in Tamil Nadu, there were discussions about improving spoken English to sports activity etc. It was one of the first meetings that was organised with the government teachers. This was done as part of efforts to revamp the SMC or school management committees.

It is now said that once new SMCs are formed then the parents would have better say in developing the schools on issues from increasing the number of classrooms, toilets, conservancy staffs and various amenities etc. Based on the feedback given by SMCs to each school, the state government would allot funds.

From as many as 31391 government schools in TN, more than 2lakhs teachers explained the parents regard their role in increasing the enrolment of the students plus strengthening infrastructure through SMCs. There were also talks about the upcoming SMC election in April. Parents are important stakeholders in the development of the schools and despite Sunday being a holiday parents came in huge numbers.

It was mentioned by a Chennai parent that such meetings must be held frequently and feedback must be taken from the parents and students. Another parent of a student studying in Kodambakkam based government school highlighted that the higher secondary class students must be given spoken English training compulsorily along with the career guidance. Many parents wanted various sports activities to start in the government schools. The regular classes have begun and sports activities must also begin in the schools.
