Posted on: 17/Feb/2022 9:38:55 AM
When compared to the pre-pandemic levels, NEET coaching for the students in Chennai has been affected now by 30% to 60% in this year. It is said that the medium and small level players have been affected very badly. The admission levels and revenue for NEET hasnt yet picked up in Chennai. Some respite was expected after total lockdown in the year 2020 and sluggish business in 2021.

Various reasons for low admissions for NEET coaching in Chennai have been listed by some industry experts. These are frequent lockdowns, hesitation from the parents to pay the fees, uncertainty and delay in conducting NEET last year plus popularity of edtech firms and the ongoing controversy related to TN seeking an exemption from NEET etc. As per a faculty in the national level NEET coaching centre in Chennai the admissions for NEET coaching has been low despite switching over to the digital format. The students also lost interest because the medical entrance examination was postponed several times and results were also delayed.

Managers of the NEET coaching centres in Chennai were unhappy regarding the poor admissions of students. They spoke about how the coaching centres were badly affected during the lockdown due to rental payment and salary payments etc. It is true that many small and medium level NEET coaching centres have been closed down. Apollo Academy MD, Mr. Christopher Jebaraj expressed his thoughts and spoke about how he had as many as 5 NEET coaching centres in TN earlier and how after the Coronavirus pandemic he was having just one coaching centre. From the Chennai centre, online classes for other centres were managed.

According to the Pioneer Academy based Mr Rajesh Rajasekaran, an alumnus from IIT, it was clear that only big NEET coaching centres that have pan India presence and sufficient money could overcome these tough times. Advertisements plus state-of-art virtual theoretical and practical classes and lowering of fees would be carried out by big coaching centres for their survival. He then threw light on how before Covid-19 pandemic his academy ran classes for 3 batches of 60 students in each batch and how it has just one.
