Posted on: 16/Feb/2016 5:44:34 PM
During November last year, TeamLease Services, a staffing services company began with a new initiative for new moms. Up to five years of age of their child, women are free to carry their child along with them for any sort of business or training. The company will bear with the travel and accommodation of the child as well as any caretaker or spouse accompanying the mother.

This initiative was literally a hit among staff. This is not just beneficial for the mother, but to the organization as well, says Rituparna Chakraborty, the co-founder and senior vice president of TeamLease. She adds that when she delivered a baby girl, she was able to move on and take up new challenges with the complete support extended by her company.

Though maternity leave can help working mothers in continuing their job post delivery, women grapple with physical troubles which can only be helped out by introducing new policies in the organization.

A three-fold approach is practiced by India Inc. These include realize, solutionize, and Sensitize, says Mansee Singhal, the principal talent at HR consulting firm Mercer India. Giving out such progressive benefits will make the company the employer’s choice. By benefitting women beyond providing them with statutory policies, they enjoy better pre and post natal flexibility and can also retain their talent. Many start-up companies are practicing the same for women who set about with their motherhood.

The latest entrant of unicorn club, ShopClues has expanded its benefits to young mothers by getting into a tie-up with Mother`s Pride chain of preschools. Employees can enjoy a 50 percent discount on the fee for first year. Shikha Taneja, a senior director of HR said the brand is working towards introducing more number of tie-ups with other preschools as well.

Myntra, yet another new-age company rolled out a new Parent Policy in which expectant mothers are given enough nourishment by serving fresh fruits at their desk each and every day. They are also given reimbursement for transportation during last few months, and they also get a baby shower. They can also have slashed rates for diagnostic interventions and treatments undertaken during pregnancy and childbirth.

Mad Street Den, an artificial intelligence based start up in Chennai is likely to launch a full-time nanny care for all employees who choose to have. Nearly 50 percent of the employees they have are women. Hence retaining best talents require a long way to go. Employees are encouraged to bring their kids and the company is soon to open a daycare as well, says Ashwini Asokan, the founder of the company.

At the same time, there are a few companies who have got shifted to bigger workspaces to facilitate new moms. Urban Ladder has a nursing room included in their office. This can also be used as resting room for expecting mothers. Hopscotch moved on to a four times bigger workspace early this year. This includes an in-house creche, nap room, and a diaper changing room as well.
