Educate, Enlighten & Empower, that is what Sri Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir aspires to do.  His Holiness Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Swamigal was of the view that the purpose of the education is to provide enduring peace and not merely make one employable.  He was of the view that the schools established by the British in India are nothing to do with our religion and children are compelled to take western education for the sake of their livelihood.  This resulted in the children being introduced to an alien system of instruction.  They had therefore no way of developing acquaintance with, or faith, in our rich ancient culture.

Vidya Mandir is a bold experiment to demonstrate that the study of the Vedas and pursuit of secular education need not be in conflict.  Since Vedic studies alone will not provide the livelihood, secular education too is incorporated into this unique system.

The school located in a 5 acre plot in Tambaram East, houses a Veda Patasala, a Namasankirthanam school to impart training on Odhuvaars in chanting Devaram and Thiruvasagam and a CBSE school.  The school has a hostel for accommodating Vedic students.  Four students can stay comfortably in a room which is well equipped with computer and other amenities.  A dining hall can seat 1000 students at a time.  The adjacent kitchen is well equipped with state of the art equipments.  A separate block for the Vedic teachers is also housed within the project.  A clinic and a dispensary form part of the facilities.

A photo gallery depicting 100 year life span of Sri Kanchi Mahaswami is also displayed alongwith many life images of the Great Sage.

As per V.Shankar, Chairman of the Trust, it is a great tribute to his Guru.  By implementing such a bold initiative he has successfully combined modernity and tradition, glory of the past and elements of the present, contemporary to the current needs of the society.

Each child is admitted after appraisal of the family income.  Free admission is provided to children from low income families.  For children from middle income groups, a regular fee is levied and the fee structure is strictly adhered to.
