Healthy Food Recipes - Amla / Indian Gooseberry Chutney (Nellikai Thogayal)!

Ingredients:
  1. Amla / Nellikai � 3 nos
  2. Onion � 1 no
  3. Tomato � 1 no
  4. Red Chilli � 2 nos
  5. Urad dal � 1 tbsp.
  6. Channa dal � 1 tbsp.
  7. Toor dal � 1 tbsp.
  8. Curry leaves � a few
  9. Cooking oil � 2 tbsp.
  10. Salt � to taste
  11. Asafoetida � a pinch
  12. Mustard seeds � � tsp.
Method to Prepare:
  1. Chop amla, onion, and tomato and keep aside.


  2. Heat pan with a spoon of oil and add Urad dal, Toor dal, Channa dal and saut� well until dal turns light brown and then add red chilli and keep aside.



  3. Again heat the same pan with 1 spoon of oil and add chopped onion and curry leaves. Saut� well until onion turns caramel brown and then add chopped tomato and amla. Saut� well for about 2 minutes and then switch off the flame.


  4. Keep it aside and allow it to cool for some time.
  5. First grind all the roasted dal and red chilli in a mixer. Then add the saut�ed mixture of onion, amla and tomato, add salt to taste and grind it to a coarse paste.



  6. Transfer it to a bowl. Heat a pan with a spoon of oil and add mustard seeds and a pinch of asafoetida for tempering. Once it splutter add it on top of the chutney and mix well.



  7. Serve delicious and healthy Amla Chutney with rice.



Tips:
  • It is better to avoid adding water while grinding the chutney in the mixer. If at all needed, you can add only a little bit quantity of water, else the dish will be bitter in taste.
  • You can store the chutney in an air tight container and use it for about 2 to 3 days.
  • You can also add a piece of coconut in this chutney, but you have to finish it off on the day of preparation itself.
  • This amla chutney is an apt side dish for any type of variety rice and (sambar, rasam and curd rice).
