As if the fear and tension of writing board examinations are not enough, the board examination students would also have to face issues like reaching the exam centre at the correct time by travelling a long distance etc!!
The students travelling long distances to reach their exam centres across Tamil Nadu might soon become a thing of the past. The DGE or Directorate of Government Examinations has been planning to reduce the travel distance of the students to the board exam centres. Soon, more exam centres would be introduced at remote places. It is learnt that the farthest board exam centre would be just 7kms away from the students of class 10,11 and 12.
From 13th of March 2023, the public examination would begin for the students of class 12 in TN. In this scenario, the DGE is thinking about setting up 3300 exam centres for about 8.8lakh class 12 students. At around 4000 exam centres, 10 lakhs plus class 10 students would be appearing for their board exams.
An official from DGE explained that in 2019 the maximum travel distance was brought under 10km. In the last 3 years, there have been additional 3000 exam centres in the state and the maximum travel distance would be 7km this year for the board exam students. More than 100 new exam centres were awarded to the govt and private schools in this year. It must be taken into note that DGE has awarded exam centres to the govt schools located at the hilly places and relaxed the minimum students strength rule. This was done to reduce the travel distance for the students.
As per the senior principal of Chennai based Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School it was clear that this move by DGE was superb and it would help students to write hassle free exams.
