The admission for the first year in several arts and sciences colleges in the state of TN hasn`t yet started. The reason for that was due to the delay in publishing the class 12 CBSE results.
Time is precious and due to that various colleges in Chennai have been using this time to design induction programmes and orientation classes for the students. It must not be forgotten that in the last year many colleges introduced bridge courses for the students of first year and this was done to help the students to cope up with Coronavirus pandemic induced learning loss. These bridge courses were highly beneficial and due to this even in this year also the bridge courses would be there for the first year students.
Principal of WCC Chennai, Lilian Jasper stated that first year students would have classes in Communicative English.
Chennai based Ethiraj College has been planning a holistic orientation programme for the first year students. The freshers would have moral science and communication classes along with the bridge courses. It is necessary to have a holistic development among the students and an interesting induction programme that would have talks by mental health experts etc, classes on moral science and communicative English etc has been planned already. It was brought out by the Ethiraj College principal Kothai that for the first 15 days after joining the college the students would be engaged in these important programmes.
For a smooth transition from school to college, MOP Vaishnav College in Chennai has chalked out an induction programme for the first year students. As per the principal of this college Lalitha Balakrishnan it was confirmed that college would be totally different from schools and teachers in the college would act as facilitators only.
She added that in the first 2 weeks of the orientation programme the first year students would come to know the difference between school and college. The students would get highly benefited by the orientation programmes.
For improving the employability of the students, students joining the famous Gurunanak College in Chennai would have to complete atleast 2 short term certificate programmes each year.
