The Kancheepuram District Collector Mr.P. Ponniah IAS., had instructed the hand-loom weavers to apply for the relief funds allotted by the government. This relief fund was allocated to support the weavers who have lost their livelihood due to the pandemic outbreak of COVID 19.
The relief fund is applicable to all the weavers in Kancheepuram, even those who are not registered members of the Tamil Nadu Hand-loom and Hand-loom Sewing Workers Welfare Board and those who are benefited with the free 200 unit electricity are also eligible to get this relief fund on application.
As per the government order, 57.18 lakhs out of the 1.35 crores allotted for the relief funds have been credited to 6,737 hand-loom weavers in Kancheepuram on 20 July. The application form to procure the relief fund for the 1,766 unregistered weavers and 2,112 un-organizational weavers are provided at the office of Assistant Director of Hand-loom and Textile ministry. The collector asked weavers to procure the available support from the government.
For those who failed to get the application forms, a document comprising of the Xerox of the electricity bill, smart card, and aadhar card along with a copy of the first page of the bank passbook has to be submitted to the office before 30 July. This step is to ensure that all the weavers without any discrimination are benefited out of the relief funds.
The application forms or the said documents to be sent to the Assistant Director of Hand-loom and textile ministry on the address - No.824, K.S. Parthasarathy street, Kamatchiyamman colony, Orikkai, Kancheepuram either in person or through e-mail.
