Combination of both online classes as well as physical classes for the college students in TN!!

With Coronavirus increasing in TN and colleges and universities shut down to contain the spread of Covid-19 pandemic, a new blended mode of learning has been given importance and it would be implemented soon.

It must be taken into account that under this blended mode plan colleges and universities would be allowed to teach 40% of the syllabus online and the rest 60% in direct physical classes. The higher education institutions in TN would soon implement this for the students. This has been brought out by some sources.

Online mode of conducting examinations would be there and this would be according to new guidelines given by UGC. It was later pointed out by UGC sources that blended learning was not just a mixture of online and physical or face-to-face mode but it would be a combo of meaningful activities in both modes.

As per a senior officer belonging to the school education department, the students would be able to learn anytime anywhere by the technology enabled in the blended mode of learning without barriers of time and location but with the support of in-person management. He threw light on how even while promoting digital learning and education, face-to-face learning has also been given huge importance.

For appropriate replication of various subjects, different effective models of blended learning would be identified. It is worthy to mention that the teachers would not be playing a passive or less important role in the students education and development. Point is that by this blended mode of learning teachers could have a huge influence on the students` learning.

It is now brought out that UGC would offer a choice of teaching these 240 hours in a blended mode. The students instead of attending 260 hours of classroom could spend up to an hour in online mode and the rest in face-to-face mode. Self study, revisions, assignments, projects, assessment preparations etc would remain unchanged. These are the additional student works.

Important piece of information is that virtual labs are also planned to provide remote access to the labs for various science and engineering courses. The advantage of virtual labs is that it would bring down the expenses.

By taking into account the feedback from all the stakeholders, the blended mode of learning would be implemented in the state of Tamil Nadu.
