According to a recent study, those who get lesser than 8 hours of sleep tend to suffer anxiety or depression.
Researchers from the Binghamton University in the US conducted a study where overall sleep timing and duration were assessed. The participants either hand moderate or high levels of repetitive negative thoughts like rumination or worry.
The participants of the study were subjected to various pictures for triggering their emotional response. The research tracked down their attention using their eye movements. With this, they found an association between regular sleep disruption and difficulty in shifting attention out of negative thoughts. So, ultimately, inadequate sleep is associated with negative thoughts.
One of the researchers in the study said that they have discovered tendencies of getting stuck in thoughts in their heads. They also have increased negative thoughts and they were very hesitant in getting out of such negative stimuli they were subjected to.
When a few participants could move on after listening to any negative information, these participants had difficulties in ignoring it. Such negativity will make them vulnerable to various psychological disorders, depression or anxiety.
The researcher further ads that such behavior may be very important over time. Such negativity is associated with various disorders like depression or anxiety or others.
The researchers are exploring the association between sleep disruption and the ways in which the basic way of ignoring obsessive thoughts.
