The Southern Railway has mentioned that passengers cancelling high value advanced booked tickets should produce Aadhar or PAN card at the ticket counter.

After the demonetization of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes to curb the black money menace, people were trying to exchange the old money in various methods. At a time when it was announced that Railways will accept the old currencies till 24th November, the administration noticed that there was a good rise in booking of tickets. There were complaints that black money hoarders are trying to book tickets and cancel it later.

In view of this, the Railways has informed that the tickets booked from 16 to 24 of this month will not be refunded over the PRS Counter in Cash.

Consequent to the demonetization of 500 and 1000 rupee notes, refund on cancellation is through Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) for refunds of higher value PRS tickets above Rs.5000. When a passenger wishes to cancel ticket across the counter, he/she must show their PAN card/Aadhar card to the counter clerk. The Counter clerk will issue a Ticket Deposit Receipt which must be sent to the Chief Commercial Manger/Refunds along with the self attested copy of PAN Card/Aadhar Card and details of Bank Account into which the refunds are to be made.
