CM Vijay to Chair First Cabinet Meeting of TVK Government; Budget, Tasmac Reforms on Agenda
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to chair the first Cabinet meeting of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government at the State Secretariat on Friday. The meeting is expected to focus on several important governance and policy matters, including preparations for the State Budget, liquor policy reforms, and the financial health of Tamil Nadu.
According to sources, the Cabinet will deliberate on the future functioning of the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac), which manages liquor sales across the State. Discussions are expected to include the operation of retail liquor outlets and bars attached to Tasmac shops as part of the government`s broader efforts to reform the liquor distribution system.
The meeting assumes significance as Chief Minister Vijay recently ordered the closure of 717 Tasmac outlets located near temples, educational institutions, and other sensitive areas. Officials said the Chief Minister had already conducted a review meeting earlier this week to assess the implementation of the closure order and examine proposals related to Tasmac operations.
Another key agenda item is likely to be the preparation of the first State Budget under the TVK government. The Cabinet is expected to discuss priorities for the upcoming Budget and review plans aimed at strengthening public finances and accelerating development initiatives.
