Ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India has announced the closure of TASMAC liquor shops for four days across the state.

With polling scheduled on April 23, TASMAC outlets and bars will remain closed on April 21, 22, and 23. In addition, liquor shops will also be shut on the vote counting day in May, as per official orders.

The directive was issued by the Prohibition and Excise Department, instructing strict enforcement of the liquor ban during the election period. Authorities have also been directed to take action against illegal storage and sale of alcohol.

All licensed TASMAC outlets and bars must remain closed from 10 AM on April 21 until midnight on April 23. Shops will also remain closed on the counting day to ensure a fair and peaceful election process.

Meanwhile, April 23 has been declared a public holiday across Tamil Nadu to facilitate voter participation. Government offices, private companies, commercial establishments, factories, and IT firms have been instructed to grant leave to employees on polling day.

Officials warned that strict action will be taken against organizations that fail to comply with the public holiday directive.
