1.86 Lakh Chennai Residents Use GCC WhatsApp Services; Corporation Earns ₹43.76 Crore

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced that more than 1.86 lakh residents have benefited from its WhatsApp-based civic services since the platform was launched in August 2025.

The WhatsApp service was introduced to make civic services easily accessible to the public. Currently, residents can access 44 services, including property tax, professional tax, trade licence-related services, birth certificates and other municipal services through the platform.

Officials said the service operates 24x7, and more than 600 birth certificates are being delivered daily through WhatsApp, helping citizens avoid unnecessary travel and waiting time.

According to the Corporation, over 2.14 lakh people have downloaded and used the WhatsApp service so far. Of these, more than 1.86 lakh users have successfully availed various services. The integrated payment system available on the platform has also generated ₹43.76 crore in revenue.

The initiative is part of GCC`s efforts to improve digital governance and provide faster, more convenient civic services to Chennai residents.
