Chennai Metro NCMC Card Update: Users Can Now Check Balance via SMS

Commuters using the Chennai Metro Rail can now easily track their travel expenses, as Chennai Metro Rail Limited has introduced a new balance check feature for the National Common Mobility Card (Singara Chennai Card).

With this update, passengers will receive an SMS after each swipe, showing both the fare deducted and the remaining balance. Earlier, users had no direct way to check their card balance, which often caused inconvenience during travel.

Regular commuters have welcomed the move, calling it a much-needed improvement for transparency and ease of use. Many passengers say this feature helps them better manage their daily commute without worrying about insufficient balance.

The NCMC card was launched in April 2023 in partnership with State Bank of India to enable seamless travel across different modes of transport. The card is available at all metro stations in Chennai and can be used across metro networks in India. Additionally, instant card dispensers introduced at select stations allow users to get the card without lengthy KYC procedures.

Commuters are now expecting the next upgrade—online recharge for NCMC cards, which would make the system completely digital and eliminate the need to stand in queues at ticket counters.

This latest update is a step forward in improving smart mobility and passenger convenience in Chennai’s metro network.
