Gold Prices Swing Wildly in a Single Day - What’s Really Going On?

Gold prices took everyone by surprise today, swinging up and down three times in just one day. This kind of movement left many gold buyers and traders confused and a bit frustrated too.

Over the past couple of years, gold has been on a remarkable run. At one point, the price per sovereign even touched ₹1,34,400, which came as a shock to many. But the market hasn’t been steady. Towards the end of January, prices suddenly dropped, falling by ₹14,000 in a single day and continuing to slide by a total of ₹22,800 over the next few days.

With tensions rising in the Middle East, many people expected gold prices to climb. But surprisingly, the opposite happened. Prices continued to fall, even during the conflict.

Today was especially dramatic. In the morning, gold prices dropped sharply, and then fell again in the afternoon, together losing ₹7,600 per sovereign in a single day. For a moment, it looked like buyers had a great opportunity.

But that didn’t last long.

By evening, prices suddenly shot up again, rising by ₹5,360 per sovereign. This quick rebound dashed the hopes of many who were waiting to buy at lower rates.

According to Jayantilal Challani, this sudden shift is closely linked to global developments. A recent announcement by the U.S. to pause attacks on Iran for five days seems to have influenced investor sentiment, pushing gold prices back up.

He explained that earlier, money had been flowing more into crude oil investments, which pushed gold prices down. But once the ceasefire news came in, the trend quickly reversed, and gold started gaining again.

So, what can we expect next?

Right now, everything depends on how global events unfold. If the situation stabilizes, gold prices may settle or rise gradually. But if tensions flare up again, we could see more sudden changes like today.

For buyers, the best approach is to stay alert and avoid rushing into decisions. With the market this unpredictable, a little patience can go a long way.
