Chennai Schools Closed on April 15 for Election Training of Teachers

Schools across Chennai district have been declared closed on Wednesday (April 15) due to election training programs for teachers ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

According to official sources, teachers and non-teaching staff involved in election duties are required to attend training sessions, making it necessary to announce a holiday for schools in the district.

Exam & Academic Update

Students from Classes 1 to 9 under the state board are currently appearing for their annual examinations, which are scheduled to conclude on April 16. Following this, summer vacation will begin from April 17, and the new academic year is expected to start on June 1.

Reason for Holiday

The holiday has been declared as:

- Teachers are participating in election training programs
- Schools are indirectly involved in election preparations
- Administrative convenience for smooth conduct of training

Officials stated that while teachers attend training, other staff may continue with essential administrative work if required.

Additional Election Training Details

The second phase of election training for polling officials in Chennai is also scheduled for April 15. The training is mandatory for those involved in polling booth duties.

Authorities have clarified that:

- April 15 will be treated as a holiday for all government and aided schools in Chennai

Anganwadi centres will also remain closed

- To compensate, April 18 (Saturday) will be considered a working day for schools
