Tamil Nadu Government Announces Interim Pension Relief for Retired Employees

The Tamil Nadu Government has issued a Government Order (GO) announcing interim pension relief for government employees retiring under the Tamil Nadu Guaranteed Pension Scheme, pending the notification of detailed scheme rules.

According to the order, the government has decided to provide immediate financial assistance to retired employees until the final rules governing the Tamil Nadu Guaranteed Pension Scheme are officially notified.

Under the interim arrangement, retired government employees will receive a monthly pension calculated at 30% of their last drawn basic pay or Rs.10,000, whichever is higher. In addition, 50% Dearness Allowance (DA) will be added to the amount and paid every month as interim pension.

The order also provides financial protection to families of retired employees. If a pensioner dies after retirement, 60% of the interim pension amount will be paid as family pension to eligible family members. In cases where an employee dies while still in service, a separate interim family pension will be provided to the eligible family member.

The government clarified that this interim arrangement will automatically cease once the official rules of the Tamil Nadu Guaranteed Pension Scheme are notified. Any difference between the interim pension amount and the final pension amount determined under the scheme will be adjusted accordingly.

Officials further stated that any excess amount paid to ineligible beneficiaries will be recovered as per government regulations. The order will be applicable to government employees retiring on or after January 1 and is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted financial support during the transition period.

The move is expected to benefit thousands of government employees awaiting the implementation of the Tamil Nadu Guaranteed Pension Scheme.
