Tamil Nadu Plans Hike in Fancy Vehicle Number Fees; Charges May Increase Up to Three Times

The Tamil Nadu government has proposed a significant increase in fancy vehicle registration number fees, with charges for two-wheelers, cars and imported vehicles set to rise under a draft amendment notification issued by the Transport Department.

According to officials, the revised fee structure is expected to be two to three times higher than the existing rates. The charges will vary based on the type and value of the vehicle.

For two-wheelers and three-wheelers, fancy number fees will range from ₹2,000 to ₹1 lakh, depending on the vehicle`s value. For imported cars and other imported vehicles, the fee will range between ₹20,000 and ₹1.5 lakh.

The Transport Department has advised vehicle owners not to pay bribes or additional charges to middlemen for obtaining fancy registration numbers. Citizens have been urged to follow the official process and pay only the government-prescribed fee.

The proposed revision aims to streamline the allotment of premium registration numbers while increasing revenue from the growing demand for fancy vehicle numbers in Tamil Nadu.
