CMDA Gets Power to Directly Approve High-Rise Projects in Chennai

In a major boost for Chennai real estate, the Tamil Nadu government has empowered the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) to directly grant planning permission for high-rise building projects in the Chennai Metropolitan Area.

Earlier, high-rise proposals required final approval from the state government after review by the High Rise Buildings (HRB) Scrutiny Panel. Under the new system, CMDA can issue approvals directly based on the panel`s recommendations, reducing delays and speeding up project clearances.

The move is expected to improve the ease of doing business, accelerate Chennai construction projects, and support faster urban development while ensuring compliance with safety and planning regulations.
