Chennai Poll Officials Must Attend March 28 Training or Face Action

With the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections scheduled to be held on April 23, 2026, the Chennai District Election Officer J. Kumaragurubaran has issued a strict warning to polling officials across the district.

He stated that all booth-level officers must attend the mandatory first-phase training on March 28 (Saturday). Officials who fail to participate will face action as per election rules.

The training will begin at 9:00 AM and will be conducted at 16 centers across Chennai. Around 19,594 polling officials are expected to take part in this session. Officials have already been informed through official communication and SMS alerts.

Chennai district, which covers 16 Assembly constituencies, has made extensive preparations for the upcoming elections. The district has a total of 28,30,936 voters, including 13,65,763 men, 14,64,344 women, and 829 third-gender voters.

A total of 4,085 polling stations have been set up across 978 locations, including 4,079 main booths and 6 auxiliary booths.

To ensure smooth and fair polling, authorities have deployed multiple monitoring and security teams, including 375 zonal teams, 48 flying squads, 48 static surveillance teams, and 32 video surveillance teams. In addition, video viewing teams, expenditure monitoring teams, and audit teams have also been formed for each constituency.

Election officials confirmed that all voting equipment is ready, including 13,634 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and 6,349 control units.

A dedicated control room has also been established for public assistance. Citizens can report election-related complaints through the toll-free number 1800 425 7012.

Officials emphasized that attending the March 28 training is crucial to ensure smooth election operations and warned that strict action will be taken against those who fail to comply.
