Yellow Alert Issued for 6 Districts in Tamil Nadu - Heavy Rain Likely on Feb 21

The Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for six districts of Tamil Nadu, warning of heavy rainfall in isolated places on Saturday (February 21). Districts Under Yellow Alert (Feb 21) Heavy rain with thunder and lightning is likely in: - Kanyakumari - Tirunelveli - Thoothukudi - Tenkasi - Virudhunagar - Theni On Sunday (February 22), Dindigul, Madurai, and Theni districts may also receive heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Weather System Behind the Rain According to the weather bulletin: - The low-pressure area over the equatorial Indian Ocean weakened on Friday morning. - However, an upper air cyclonic circulation over the equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal may lead to the formation of a new low-pressure area within the next 48 hours. - Another upper air circulation over South Tamil Nadu and South Kerala is expected to enhance rainfall activity. Rain Forecast for Tamil Nadu Feb 21 & 22: Moderate rain likely at many places in South Tamil Nadu; isolated showers in North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Feb 23 to 26: Light to moderate rain may continue in isolated areas across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Chennai Weather Update Chennai city is expected to witness partly cloudy skies on Saturday, with light to moderate rain likely in some areas. Fishermen Warning Strong winds may blow at speeds of up to 60 kmph over parts of the southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean regions. Fishermen are advised to exercise caution while venturing into the sea.
