Tambaram Traffic Police Ban Heavy Vehicles on GST Road on October 17 & 18 for Diwali Rush

In view of the upcoming Diwali festival, the Tambaram City Police has announced temporary traffic changes near the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT) on October 17, 18, 21, and 22 to ease congestion and ensure smooth travel for the public.

According to an official press release, the following traffic regulations and route diversions will be implemented for heavy vehicles to facilitate the movement of buses and passengers heading towards KCBT and to prevent city traffic jams:

- From 2:00 p.m. on October 17 and 18, heavy vehicles coming from Chennai and Avadi areas will be diverted at Poonamallee and can reach their destinations via Sriperumbudur – Tiruvannamalai – Thirukovilur along the GST Road.

- Heavy vehicles from the Maduravoyal area towards Tambaram will be diverted at Maduravoyal and can reach their destinations via Sriperumbudur – Kanchipuram – Tiruvannamalai – Thirukovilur along the GST Road.

- Vehicles coming from Kanchipuram via Walajabad towards Otteri will be diverted at Oragadam Junction and can proceed via Sriperumbudur – Tiruvannamalai – Thirukovilur – GST Road.

- On October 21 and 22 from 2:00 p.m. onwards, heavy vehicles coming via Chengalpattu can reach Chennai through the Chengalpattu

- Kanchipuram – Walajabad – Sriperumbudur – Bengaluru National Highway route.

- Heavy vehicles from Singaperumal Temple will be diverted via Oragadam – Sriperumbudur, reaching Chennai through the Bengaluru National Highway.

- In case of traffic congestion near Irumbuliyur Bridge, heavy vehicles will be rerouted via Vandalur Outer Ring Road and the Maduravoyal Bypass.

Additional Transport Arrangements

To ensure hassle-free travel during the festival period, the following arrangements have been made:

Suburban Train Services: On October 21 and 22, additional suburban trains will operate from Kattankulathur, Maraimalainagar, and Potheri railway stations to expedite return travel after the holidays.

Bus Services: For passenger convenience, 2,092 special buses will be operated from the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus between October 16 and 19.

Long-Distance Travel Advisory: Passengers traveling to and from Puducherry, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, and nearby districts are advised to use the OMR and ECR routes to avoid congestion.

Railway Arrangements: Special local trains will also operate at regular intervals to help ease road traffic.

The Tambaram m City Traffic Police has requested all motorists and travelers to cooperate and follow the diversion guidelines to ensure smooth and safe travel during the festive season.
