Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Moderate Rain Likely in Chennai and Several Districts Today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall in Chennai and several districts of Tamil Nadu today, with thunderstorms and gusty winds expected in some regions. Districts including Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Namakkal, and Salem may receive moderate rain accompanied by lightning and winds reaching 40-50 kmph.

The weather department stated that maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu are likely to remain close to normal until June 18, with no significant change expected. Meanwhile, Chennai weather is expected to remain partly cloudy, with moderate rain and thunderstorms likely in isolated areas. The city may record maximum temperatures of 38-39°C and minimum temperatures of 27-28°C.

A trough extending from the central-west Bay of Bengal to South Tamil Nadu is influencing weather conditions across the state. Heavy rainfall is also likely in parts of Namakkal, Salem, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Kallakurichi, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Mayiladuthurai on Tuesday.

The weather department has also issued a fishermen warning, stating that strong winds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, may prevail over the Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and adjoining sea areas until June 18. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
