To manage the growing summer travel demand, the Southern Railway has introduced weekly special trains connecting Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram with Santragachi.
Chennai to Santragachi Weekly Special Train
A weekly special train will operate from MGR Chennai Central to Santragachi Junction every Saturday night from April 4 to June 6.
- Return service: Every Monday from Santragachi
- Covers major stations including Gudur, Nellore, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Duvvada (Visakhapatnam region), and Bhubaneswar
- Total trips: 10 services in each direction
Thiruvananthapuram North to Santragachi Special Train
Another weekly service will run between Thiruvananthapuram North and Santragachi:
- Departure: Every Friday from April 3 to June 5
- Return: Every Monday from Santragachi
- Covers key stations across Kerala and Tamil Nadu including Kollam, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, and Katpadi
- Total trips: 10 services in each direction
Bookings and Travel Advisory
Reservations for these summer special trains opened on March 29, and passengers are advised to book early due to high seasonal demand.
These special services are expected to significantly ease travel congestion and improve connectivity between South India and eastern regions, especially during the busy summer holiday period.
