Tamil Nadu Board Exams 2026 - Teachers to Continue as Scribes for Differently-Abled Students

Posted on: 20/Feb/2026 9:30:55 AM

The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE) has confirmed that the existing scribe system will continue for differently-abled students appearing for Class 10 and Class 12 public examinations. The latest announcement clarifies that teachers will continue to serve as scribes, reversing the recent proposal to appoint college students and volunteers.

Old Scribe System Retained

Earlier, authorities planned to appoint college students and volunteers as scribes from the 2025–2026 academic year. However, following objections from educators, political parties, and social organizations, the decision has been rolled back.

As a result, teachers will once again be appointed as scribes, similar to previous years.

Students Eligible for Scribe Assistance

The scribe facility will be available for students with:

- Dyslexia

- Neurological disorders

- Visual impairment

- Temporary injuries such as hand fractures

- Other approved disabilities

These students can dictate answers while the appointed scribe writes the examination.

Reason for the Decision Change

Education experts raised concerns that appointing non-teacher scribes could affect exam quality and student performance. To ensure fairness and better support for differently-abled candidates, the government has decided to continue the trusted teacher-based system.
