Heavy Rain Likely in 6 Districts of Tamil Nadu Today, Heatwave Continues

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in six districts of Tamil Nadu on April 30, even as intense summer heat continues across the state.

According to IMD, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri are likely to receive heavy rain due to atmospheric disturbances extending from interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar. Thunderstorms with lightning and moderate rain are also expected in parts of Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal between April 30 and May 2.

District-wise Rain Forecast:

April 30: Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri

May 1: Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni

May 2: Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Sivagangai, Virudhunagar

Heatwave Conditions Persist

Despite the rain forecast, temperatures remain high across Tamil Nadu.

- Vellore recorded a scorching 106.7°F, the highest in the state
- Several cities reported temperatures above 100°F
- Chennai may see temperatures touching 102°F

Weather Warning

IMD has cautioned that from April 30 to May 3:

- Maximum temperatures will remain above normal
- High humidity may cause discomfort
- Alternating rain and heat conditions are expected

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid peak heat hours, and take precautions during thunderstorms
