In a major step towards improving passenger safety and infrastructure, Indian Railways has undertaken significant upgrades across several stations under the Chennai Railway Division.

As part of the initiative, new Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) are being constructed to prevent unsafe track crossings and ensure smoother passenger movement. During the last financial year 2025–26, a total of 11 new foot over bridges have been completed across key stations.

Key Developments:

- 11 new FOBs constructed in one year
- One FOB built under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
- Focus on reducing track-crossing accidents
- Improved passenger flow during peak hours and festivals

Special Upgrade at Tiruttani

At Tiruttani railway station, a 12-metre-wide foot over bridge has been constructed to handle heavy passenger traffic, especially during festival seasons. The wider structure ensures safe and congestion-free movement for pilgrims and daily commuters.

Expansion to Other Stations

New FOBs have also been developed at high-footfall stations such as:

- Walajabad
- Tiruvallur

These upgrades are designed to improve accessibility and safety for thousands of passengers.

Focus on Future Improvements

Railway officials have stated that more stations will soon be upgraded with additional facilities, including improved access for differently-abled passengers. The initiative marks a significant milestone in enhancing safety standards and modernizing railway infrastructure in the region.
