Velachery - St Thomas Mount MRTS Likely to Open on March 10

The long-awaited MRTS extension between Velachery and St Thomas Mount is expected to open for passenger services from March 10 after railway safety officials completed statutory inspections and speed trials on the nearly 5-km elevated corridor on Thursday.
The inspection was carried out by the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety, who reviewed tracks, bridges, signalling systems and other safety features. The new stretch includes Adambakkam and Puzhuthivakkam stations, and once operational, MRTS trains will run directly from Chennai Beach to St Thomas Mount, improving rail connectivity in south Chennai.
