Chennai Metro Gets Final Nod for Poonamallee - Vadapalani Stretch; Trains Every 10 Minutes

Chennai Metro Rail has received the final safety clearance for the 14.6-km Poonamallee–Vadapalani stretch under Phase II, paving the way for improved train operations and better connectivity for commuters.

With the approval in place, metro train frequency on the stretch will now improve to once every 10 minutes, offering faster and more convenient travel for passengers using the corridor.

Authorities have also eased the speed restrictions between Porur and Vadapalani. Metro trains are now permitted to operate at speeds of up to 40 kmph along this section, which is expected to reduce travel time and improve overall efficiency.

Currently, trains will halt only at stations up to Porur before proceeding directly to Vadapalani, as several stations beyond Porur are still under various stages of construction and development.

The development marks a significant milestone for Chennai Metro’s Phase II expansion project, which aims to strengthen public transportation infrastructure and ease road traffic congestion across the city.

Once the remaining stations are completed and operational, commuters from western suburbs and surrounding areas are expected to benefit greatly from faster and seamless metro connectivity to key parts of Chennai.
