Mount Poonamallee Road Damaged Stretch Worries Chennai Commuters

Thousands of daily commuters travelling along Mount Poonamallee Road are facing severe difficulties due to damaged roads, potholes, and worsening traffic congestion amid ongoing metro rail works.

The nearly 10-km stretch from Porur Flyover to Kathipara Junction is heavily used by IT employees, office-goers, buses, autos, and two-wheeler riders every day.

Road milling work has been completed from Porur Flyover to Moonlight Bus Stop, but fresh road-laying work has not yet started. The uneven surface and multiple potholes are causing discomfort to motorists and increasing accident risks, especially during rain due to water stagnation.

Commuters say the condition of the road has worsened because of ongoing Chennai Metro Rail Limited works. Auto drivers and residents have urged authorities to speed up repair work as daily travel has become stressful and unsafe.

According to Highways Department officials, road-laying work for nearly 900 metres is planned but may take more than 10 days to begin. Full road restoration will start after metro construction barricades are removed.
