On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay urged people to join hands in building a drug-free, safe, and healthy Tamil Nadu, emphasizing that youth engagement, strict law enforcement, and collective social responsibility are key to eliminating drug abuse.

In a social media message released by the Tamil Nadu Government, the Chief Minister said that creating awareness about the harmful effects of narcotic drugs is essential to protect the future of young people and prevent crime.

He stressed that involving youth in education, sports, skill development, and other constructive activities, along with strict legal action against drug-related offences and the combined efforts of society, can help eradicate drug abuse and build a stronger community.

The Chief Minister also appealed to the public to support the Tamil Nadu Government`s ongoing initiatives to combat drug-related crimes and reaffirm their commitment to creating a drug-free State.

Highlighting the government`s anti-drug campaign, he encouraged citizens with the slogan:

"Start Run, Stop Drugs – Choose Sports, Quit Drugs."

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Vijay flagged off and participated in the `Start Run, Stop Drugs` anti-drug awareness marathon held in Chennai.

The awareness run began on Kamarajar Salai and was attended by Ministers Aadhav Arjuna, Bussy Anand, and Maria Wilson, along with government officials, police personnel, athletes, sports enthusiasts, and members of the public. The event was organised to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and encourage a healthy, drug-free lifestyle among the youth.
