In a major step to strengthen passenger safety, the Tamil Nadu government has announced that all state-run buses will be fitted with tracking devices and panic buttons for real-time monitoring.
The buses will be equipped with Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTDs), enabling authorities to monitor live location, speed, and route movement through a centralized system. This will help improve operational efficiency and ensure better control over public transport services.
Panic Button for Emergency Response
As part of the safety upgrade:
- Panic buttons will be installed inside buses
- Passengers can alert authorities instantly during emergencies
- Control rooms will receive real-time alerts for quick action
This feature is expected to significantly improve passenger security, especially for women and elderly commuters.
Smarter Transport System
The new system will also:
- Prevent route deviations
- Enable faster response during incidents
- Improve overall accountability of transport services
Officials stated that this initiative will play a key role in creating a safer and more efficient public transport network in Tamil Nadu.
