Kalikambal Temple is one of the most famous temples in Chennai dedicated to Goddess Kalikambal, an incarnation of Goddess Kamakshi. Originally located near the seashore, the temple was later shifted to its present location during the 16th century. It is believed that the great Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj visited and worshipped at this sacred temple.

Temple Architecturei

Built in traditional Dravidian architecture, the temple houses Goddess Kalikambal and Lord Kamadeswarar as the main deities. The temple also features shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Lord Indra, Lord Varuna, Lord Vishwakarma, and Lord Kubera. The beautifully carved Rajagopuram and the sacred Arthameru installed by Adi Shankaracharya are major attractions.

Festivals Celebrated

Navaratri is the most important festival celebrated at the temple. Special poojas are also conducted on Full Moon days, Tuesdays, Fridays, during the Tamil month of Aadi, Vaigasi Brahmotsavam, Deepavali, and Pongal.
